The Paul Smith’s Bobcats opened this year’s Nordic ski season with two historic weekends of racing.

The opening weekend was hosted at the Paul Smith’s Visitor Interpretive Center and saw the home team end a drought that started in 1963.

The drought ended when the Bobcats took home wins from both the men’s and women’s teams over the past two weekends.

Paul Smiths was led by the women’s team in the two competitions. Dolcie Tanguay helped guide the women to their first title since 1963 on the opening weekend taking the win in both Saturday and Sunday races.

Tanguay was dominant once again at the Gore Ski Bowl. She won the women’s 10k skate by more than a minute over the second-place finisher and she won the 13k classic race by nearly 30 seconds. Currently, Tanguay remains undefeated in college races this season.

On the men’s side, the Bobcats opened their season surprising much of the league by taking the top four spots. They continued their success by winning the second day of the Bobcat Invitational.

A week later, at the Castleton invite, Paul Smiths lit a firecracker off and took first place along with a third, fourth and fifth-place finish to win the invitational by a mere 8 points.

The Bobcats followed that up with a battle in the classic race ultimately prevailing to remain undefeated this season. Aidan Ripp has led the men taking the win on both days of the Castleton invite.

The Paul Smith’s Nordic ski teams will take on the US Super Tour next at Mount Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid this weekend. The Bobcats will ski against some of the best skiers in the U.S. before returning to the college tour Feb. 5-6 for the Clarkson Invite at the Paul Smith’s VIC.
