Bombers edge out Red Storm

SARANAC LAKE — The Lake Placid Blue Bombers girls varsity soccer team defeated the Saranac Lake Red Storm 1-0 on Tuesday.

The Bombers started the game off hot when Dariana Patterson scored on an assist from Lily Fisher around the 13-minute mark of the first half.

“Lake Placid outplayed us in the first half in just about every aspect of the game,” Saranac Lake head coach Jason Wamsganz said in a statement. “Their forwards put pressure on our defense and made us uncomfortable. We were slow to the ball and not very aggressive in the first half.”

Patterson’s goal was the only goal of the game. The Bombers closed out the game 1-0.

“I am happy how the girls regrouped at halftime and their play and aggressiveness in the second half was much better,” Wamsganz said. “We had a few close chances that just didn’t go our way. Emma Wood played a nice game in net. Our congratulations to Lake Placid, they played well enough to win, they did a nice job.”

Saranac Lake’s Wood finished the game with 13 saves while Lake Placid’s Brooklyn Huffman had six saves.

Both the Red Storm and the Blue Bombers will finish off their seasons at home today against Northeastern Clinton and Chazy, respectively.
