Lake Placid softballers bow out in playoffs

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid softball team ended its season on a sore note as it fell to the Ticonderoga Sentinels 18-4 in a Class C Section VII semifinal game on Tuesday in Ticonderoga.

“Our girls played hard,” Blue Bomber coach Greg Hayes said. “The Ticonderoga girls had their timing down on our pitchers and hit the ball well.”

Cassidy Mattison led the charge for Ticonderoga with four hits, including a triple and a double.

Anna Whitman pitched a complete game for the Sentinels en route to a sectional victory. Whitman allowed four runs on just seven hits as the Blue Bombers offense could not seem to get going.

Even with the offensive struggles, Danaya Patterson provided two hits for the Blue Bombers’ offense. Emma Adragna and Chelsea Moore each tallied a hit and a run in the ball game.

Lake Placid’s defense struggled in the loss, as they allowed 14 hits to the Sentinels as well as earning three errors. Grace Crawford had the lone strikeout for the Blue Bombers.

“We had an up and down season. I’m proud of the way our team responded to the craziest season I’ve been involved in,” said Hayes.

With the loss, the Blue Bombers finished the season at 5-11 record.
