High School Roundup: SLP lax girls fall in playoffs

POTSDAM — The Saranac Lake Placid girls lacrosse team’s season has come to an end after a playoff loss to Potsdam Saturday.

After defeating Plattsburgh 11-10 in double overtime to secure the fifth seed on Wednesday, the SLP girls traveled to Potsdam in the first round of playoffs. Potsdam took the game with a score of 16-7.

Potsdam started the game off hot as they opened with a commanding lead of 7-0, and by the end of the first half, it was 11-4. SLP was not able to come back as Potsdam netted five more and SLP only three in the second half.

SLP’s goals were scored by Olivia Ferebee, who netted four, and Rylee Preston who put up a hat trick with three on the night.

With this loss, the Saranac Lake Placid lacrosse team’s season will end with a record of 6-9. Potsdam improves to 9-6 and played in the Section X semifinal on Monday against the undefeated Salmon River.

Girls lose in tennis sectionals

BEEKMANTOWN — All members of the Lake Placid girls tennis team were knocked out of the Section VII championships Friday.

Unlike the rest of the season, the section championships are made for players’ individual glory. Lake Placid saw one athlete and one doubles team advance to the second round of the tournament, Reagan Levitt won her first match, and doubles pair Dellice Chase and Dayna Bearce won their first match as well. In the second round, both the pair and Levitt were knocked out of the tournament.

Keene softball team knocked out of playoffs

CROWN POINT — Winning pitcher Kaitlin Ross accounted for a triple and two singles at the plate Friday to help power Crown Point to a 20-8 victory over Keene in the Section VII Class D softball quarterfinals.

Makenna Munson added a single and double for the Panthers, who scored runs in every inning. Crown Point, which finished with 11 hits, tallied six runs in the fifth.

Haylie Buysse led the way for Keene with three hits, and Megan Quinn was next with two.
