SARANAC LAKE — After having no high school track a year ago due to the coronavirus pandemic, Saranac Lake’s boys and girls returned to competition in a big way Thursday with a sweep over AuSable Valley in their first meet of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season.

Competing at home, a veteran Red Storm boys squad won every event on the way to a 111-9 victory over the Patriots. Meanwhile, Saranac Lake’s girls chalked up a 93-16 triumph to kick off their 2021 campaign.

Five veteran seniors led the Saranac Lake boys on the track as Peter and Andrew Fogarty, Micah McCulley, Colter Cheney-Seymour and James Catania all won multiple events. Sophomore Mitchell Ellsworth also picked up two wins in the field with a sweep of the throwing competitions.
