SL wins, LP falls in volleyball

SARANAC LAKE — On a night when Saranac Lake honored its seven seniors playing varsity volleyball, the Red Storm came through with a 3-0 victory over Northern Adirondack Wednesday.

Saranac Lake swept by 25-22, 25-22 and 25-16 scores on the way to improving to 3-4.

Arza Michael was the Red Storm’s top setter, finishing with nine assists, and Anica Null and Kelsey Leeret finished with four kills apiece in the win.

Alyssa LaPierre (8), Alexis Johnson (7) and Alison Hewitt (6) had the most points in the match for the Red Storm.

Elyse Hogan led NAC’s defensive effort with team-high 15 digs, and Allie Barber, Morgan Lawrence and Chelsea Tanzer added nine digs each for the Bobcats.

Lawrence also had 12 kills, and Tanzer dished out six assists.

Saranac Lake will look to finish with a 4-4 record when it closes out the season Friday at Northeastern Clinton.

Beekmantown sweeps Lake Placid

BEEKMANTOWN — One of the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference’s perennial powers in volleyball proved to be too much for Lake Placid on Wednesday.

Playing on the road at Beekmantown, the Blue Bombers were swept by the Eagles by scores of 25-16, 25-21 and 25-8.

Beekmantown’s Alexys Hawks made history in the match, recording the 1,000th assist in her high school varsity career.

Hawks finished with 22 assists in the match and also registered four kills, three aces and two digs.

Jenna Begor finished with a double-double for the Eagles with 17 aces and 13 digs. Lauren Cross and Ella Repas chipped in nine kills each for the winners.

The Blue Bombers made Beekmantown work for the win in the second set, falling by a slim 25-21 margin.

Karis Hudson served up seven points to pace Lake Placid, and Dylan Bashaw notched seven digs.

Bashaw and Julia Crawford both had four kills to lead Lake Placid’s attack.

The Blue Bombers wrap up their season tonight at home against AuSable Valley.
