Tupper Lake falls in volleyball

TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake volleyball team kicked off its competitive Fall 2 season Monday with a 3-0 loss at home to Salmon River. The Shamrocks won by scores of 25-17, 25-16 and 25-10.

Despite the setback, Lumberjacks coach Diane Helms was encouraged by her team started its season, which will include six matches.

“We had all first-year players new to varsity, and they played great.” Helms said. “Right now, girls basketball is still going on, so there’s a bit of an overlap. There are four on the basketball team who are starters for us, and we’ll be getting them back. The girls we had did great. One of them is a junior who never played volleyball before. The girls never got down on one another. They hung right in there.”

Monday’s match was the only one the Lumberjacks will play prior to the school’s spring vacation. They’ll be back in action on April 14.
