The Saranac Lake and Lake Placid Nordic teams wrapped up their season competing against each other on Wednesday on the trails at the Paul Smith’s College Visitor Interperative Center.

In keeping with this winter’s trend, the much deeper Red Storm boys and girls teams skied to a sweep to finish their varsity seasons with 6-0 records. Both Saranac Lake squads placed four skiers in the top five on the way to the wins.

Lake Placid, however, did grab the top spot in the boys race as Andrew Scanio took the individual victory with a time of 14 minutes, 35 seconds. The sophomore turned the tables on one of his rivals this season, Adrian Hayden, who was the fastest finisher when the teams last met on Monday on a snowy night under the lights at the Red Storm’s home course at Dewey Mountain.

Hayden led Saranac Lake Wednesday, finishing runner-up 20 seconds behind Scanio’s winning time.

In the girls race, Red Storm sophomore Sophia Kelting finished her season with a perfect record, winning handily in 16:22, which was more than two minutes faster of her second-place teammate Bella Wissler, who crossed the line in 16:38.

The boys field featured 16 racers, including 13 from Saranac Lake. Other top five finishers for the Red Storm were Colter Cheney-Seymour third in 15:45, Owen Keal fourth in 16:08 and Sam Ash in fifth place with a 16:24 result.

Trey Frantz was Lake Placid’s second-fastest finisher, placing sixth in 17:27.

Maya Garrison had the top result for the Blue Bombers in the girls race, finishing third in 19:55. Saranac Lake took the next two spots with Katie Samperi in fourth in 21:15 and Ruby Smith fifth in 21:33.
