SARANAC LAKE — After nearly a month’s worth of practices, the Saranac Lake USA Football League held its first games of the season on Saturday at the Spencer Boatworks field.

More than 100 boys and girls from Saranac Lake, Lake Placid, Tupper Lake and surrrounding communities are taking part in the league, which runs though the end of October. Participants range from kindergarteners to high school seniors, and at least this year, due to the coronvirus pandemic, all games will be flag football.

Saturday saw two games being played simultaneously with the big field split in half, with four age groups playing against each other. Games kicked off with the kindergarten though second grade age group, and moved into 3rd and fourth graders, fifth and sixth graders and wrapped up with seventh-graders through seniors in the final group.

This Saturday will mark the second day of action behind Spencer Boatworks with games starting at 9 a.m.
