On July 12, 20011, hundreds of hockey fans, mainly the Boston Bruins faithful, visited the Olympic Center to see the Stanley Cup, which their team captured earlier that year by beating the Vancouver Canucks 4-3 in the NHL’s final series. Don DelNegro, the Bruins’ head trainer who calls Lake Placid his second home, was responsible for the Stanley Cup to Lake Placid for the visit. The Stanley Cup has been on display at the Olympic Center a handful of times since then during the ECAC Men’s Ice Hockey Championships that take place in March.
