Each June, the United Way of the Adirondack Region has held a fundraising golf tournament at various courses around Lake Placid featuring Olympians, national team athletes and coaches and other local celebrities, like those gathered here when the event was held 11 years ago on June 18, 2009. The tournament features four-person scramble teams that include a celebrity guest in each foursome. The 20th annual Olympic Celebrity Golf Classic was scheduled to be held again this week in Lake Placid, but like numerous other traditional sports events, it was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.
