Fisher, Norfolk shine at U14 states
Young athletes from The New York Ski Education Foundation wrapped up their competitive seasons last weekend at the New York State Ski Racing Association U14 state championships at Holimont Mountain in Ellicotville.
Although the event wasn’t scheduled to be the final competition of the winter, that was the scenario that unfolded as the rest of the season was canceled due to the coronavirus.
In addition to naming state champions, the races at Holimont served as a qualifier for the U14 Eastern Championships that were originally slated to take place in Sugarbush, Vermont this weekend.
Lake Placid’s Lilyann Fisher and Lincoln Norfolk turned in the top performances among the NYSEF skiers at Holimont. Each young athlete took home the “Skimeister” award for finishing all three races with the overall top results. Fisher skied to victory in the slalom and placed second in both the giant slalom and super G. Meanwhile, Norfolk claimed a pair of seconds in the giant slalom and super G and finished sixth in the slalom.
NYSEF teammates also having solid performances at Holimont were Emma Poisson, Katalin Mazansky, Zoe Carpenter, Sydney Kuder, Teegan Wardlaw, Gavin Elbert, Charles Howe, Louis Farone and Moksh Patel. They will be competing against the top U14 skiers in the region.
Ebert was the other NYSEF racer to ski to victory in Holimont, capturing wins in the boys slalom and super G.
An additional eight NYSEF skiers qualified for the now-canceled regional races that were scheduled for West Mountain near Glens Falls on March 20-22.
The group consists of Shayla Byrne, Taylor Dennis, Gianna Manuels, Ava Villiere, Chiara Gelardi, Carson Correa, Henry Parobeck and Marko Ivkovic.
