SARANAC LAKE — The NBT Bank Ice Palace Fun Run drew a record crowd of 72 participants Saturday to take on a hilly course through the neighborhoods of Saranac Lake.

Jared Whalen was the first runner to cross the finish line in front of the Winter Carnival Ice Palace, completing the approximately 4-mile course in 28 minutes, 14 seconds. He was followed by Camdan Fort in 28:37 and Rob Kaplan in 28:52.

Linda Grossman was the first female finisher, recording a time of 30:10. Isabella Paulos was second in 31:18 and Tracy Henderson placed third in 32:40.

Race organizer Dave Staszak said the 67 finishers was an all-time high. He also wanted to thank NBT Bank for sponsoring the Fun Run and Julie Conners, the branch manager, for her ongoing volunteer support.

“Thank you to Lakeview Deli for the hot chocolate and to my road guards Tom Dudones, Chuck Vananden and Barbara Conlian,” Staszak wrote. “A special thank you to my wife Patti for her help in organizing the event and working the finish line.”
