Bombers escape with tense road victory

The Lake Placid boys basketball team nearly let Wednesday’s game against Boquet Valley get away, but came through in the end to secure a 42-40 victory on the road.

The Blue Bombers built an 11-point lead over the first three quarters, before Boquet Valley took over in the fourth quarter. Boquet got to within 40-38 then Lake Placid’s Matt Brandes hit two free throws with 28 seconds showing on the clock.

Boquet got the ball to Blake Liberi who was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining. Liberi made two of three free throws, then Boquet wrangled the rebound and attempted another three that missed the mark as the Blue Bombers escaped with a 42-40 win.

Boquet outscored Lake Placid 15-6 in the fourth quarter.

Brandes led the Blue Bombers in scoring with 14 points, followed by teammate Nick Marvin who scored 10 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Adnan Cecunjanin and Zack Gavin each scored five.
