SLP boys hockey remains unbeaten in league play

ROUSES POINT — The Saranac Lake Placid boys hockey team stayed unbeaten at 3-0 in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference with a 4-2 road victory Thursday over Northeastern Clinton.

SLP scored twice in the first period and two more times in the second to grab a commanding 4-0 lead and never looked back.

Tyler Hinckley led SLP with two goals and Ben Munn and Hunter Wilmot each found the back of the net once in the win. Carter Sturgeon was SLP’s big playmaker, finishing with three assists. Teammate Hugo Hobson had two assists and Dylan Amell and Brendan Bullock recorded one each.

Lucas Bedard Ryan Johnstone Jr. scored goals for the Cougars. Noah Gonyo notched the only assist for NCCS.

SLP outshot NCCS 38-21. Anders Stanton registered 19 saves to earn the win in nets and Ethan Garrand made 34 stops between the pipes for the Cougars.

SLP improved to 6-3 with the win and will next play a non-league game on the road Saturday against the Albany Academy Cadets.

NCCS dropped to 3-5 overall with the loss. The Cougars next play on Friday, a non-league contest against the ADK Rivermen.
