Karl Schulz stands atop the podium after taking first place in the 10-kilometer skate-skiing race Jan. 17 at the Eastern Intercollegiate Ski Association Harvard Carnival. Schulz, a Lake Placid native who was sking for University of Vermont, finished in 24:15.5 to beat out UVM teammate Matias Oevrum (24:29.5) and Harvard’s Remi Drolet (24:41). University of New Hampshire skiers Scott Schulz (ninth in 25:24.9) and Bryce Hartman (21st in 26:26.8) were also in the race, as was Harvard’s Everett Sapp, who finished 39th in 27:04.7. In the women’s 5k race, Lucy Hochschartner placed 18th in 14:44.7.
