Red Storm fall in boys hoops return

WILLSBORO — After a 13-day layoff from competition, the Saranac Lake boys basketball team was dealt a 51-42 setback by Willsboro on the road Saturday in a non-league matchup.

The Red Storm suffered from a slow start and cold shooting on an afternoon when they fell into a big hole early and never recovered. The Warriors owned a 39-13 lead at halftime and did enough after intermission on the way to improving to 4-3 overall. The Red Storm, who shot just 26% percent from the field and hit half of their 18 attempts at the free throw line, dropped to 2-6.

Reagan Arnold had a big day for Willsboro with a game-high 23 points. The junior connected on eight of his 14 field goal attempts, including a 4-for-7 performance from three-point range. Brennon Ferney was Willsboro’s next-highest scoring with nine points.

Freshman Landon Faubert and sophomore Nate McCarthy hit for double figures to lead Saranac Lake. Faubert finished with 15 points and McCarthy added 14.

Brady Yando chipped in eight points in the loss. McCarthy and teammate James Catania both collected a game-high eight rebounds each.

Saranac Lake returns to Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action Thursday on the road against Plattsburgh with the opening tip-off slated for 7:15 p.m.
