Ledger registers strong results in Youth Olympic Games
Van Ledger, of Lake Placid, competed in two biathlon events over the weekend at the Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Ledger was the top American male finisher in the 12-kilometer individual event Saturday, finishing 59th with a time of 41 minutes, 3.5 seconds. Teammate Cale Woods, of Bozeman, Montana, shot two clean rounds and finished less than 11 seconds behind with a time of 41:24.3 for 64th place. Etienne Bordes, of Tahoe City, California, placed 76th with a time of 42:39.8.
In the women’s 10-kilometer individual event Saturday, Kaisa Bosek, of Alexandria, Minnesota, finished 18th for the United States with a time of 36:24.2, shooting clean for three of her four rounds. She tied for the least number of penalties, missing just two of her 20 targets. Lexie Madigan, of Sun Valley, Idaho, finished 55th with a time of 36:30.8, while Maja Lapkass, of Anchorage, Alaska, finished 69th with a time of 41:38.3.
Ledger joined Bosek on Sunday in the single mixed relay. The pair shot cleanly over three rounds and finished 21st with a time of 48:30.2. They compete again in the men’s and women’s sprint on Jan. 14 on Tuesday.
Other Lake Placid-area athletes competing in the Winter Youth Olympic Games are luger Samuel Eckert, of Wilminton, and bobsledder Maddy Cohen, of Keene Valley. The YOG sliding events will take place later this week.
