Red Storm place third in Federation meet

The Saranac Lake boys cross country team turned in another outstanding performance Saturday with a third-place finish at the New York State Federation Cross Country Championships at Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls.
The Red Storm, who repeated as Class C state champions last week, were the third-best team in a 27-team field that included runners from all classifications. Saranac Lake finished with 185 points, trailing only Class B state champion Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake (151) and Mount Academy (172).
Saranac Lake junior Peter Fogarty placed fourth out of 249 total finishers in the 5-kilometer race. He crossed the line in 16:23.4, which was 26.2 seconds behind Sam Lawler, a senior from Pittsford Mendon, who won the race in 15:57.2. Ryan Allison, a sophomore from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, finished second in 16:16.6 and Gitch Hayes, of LaSalle Institute, was third in 16:23.2.
James Catania was the next Saranac Lake runner across the finish line, posting a time of 16:38.7 for 12th place. Teammate Andrew Fogarty took 25th place with a time of 16:42.7, the same exact time as Myles Hogan, of Fordham Prep, and Jake McGowan, of Liverpool.
Other Saranac Lake finishers were Tucker Jakobe (113th in 17:39.5), Micah McCulley (125th in 17:44.9), Justin Duprey (156th in 17:55.6) and Sam Ash (164th in 18:01.8). All the Saranac Lake runners are juniors, other than Ash, who is a freshman
