Storm boys race to top four spots

PLATTSBURGH — The Saranac Lake boys cross country team swept the top four spots and the Red Storm girls placed three in the top five on the way to victories Tuesday at SUNY Plattsburgh.

Peter Fogarty edged teammate James Catania by less than a second for first place overall in the boys race. Fogarty was credited with a time of 16:12, while Catania crossed in 16:12.9. Third place went to Andrew Fogarty (16:13.6) and fourth went to Micah McCulley with a 16:15.

The defending Class C state champion Saranac Lake boys earned a team score of 16 points to earn dual meet victories over Beekmantown (47) and Lake Placid (45). The Lake Placid boys picked up a 20-43 win over Beekmantown and lost to Plattsburgh 27-28.

Beekmantown’s Connor Goodwin took fifth place overall in the boys race with a time of 16:31, while Mike Skutt, of Lake Placid, was sixth also with a time of 16:31.

Nora Graves, of Plattsburgh, won the girls’ race, trailed by Saranac Lake’s Sara Trabakoulos, who recorded a time of 20:46. Harley Cohen, of Lake Placid, finished third in 21:01, and Saranac Lakers Katie Samperi (21:24) and Gwen Mader (21:42) placed fourth and fifth.

The Red Storm girls earned dual meet victories over Plattsburgh (22-39), Lake Placid (19-42) and Beekmantown (17-46).

Saranac Lake and Lake Placid return to action Saturday at the Burnt Hills Invitational at Saratoga Spa State Park.
