The North Country Community College soccer teams had mixed results Tuesday in NJCAA quarterfinal playoff games.

The men’s team rallied in the second half to beat Jefferson Community College 2-1 in overtime, while the women’s team was upset at home after a shootout loss against Tompkins Cortland Community College.

Jefferson Community College scored the game’s first goal 32 minutes into the opening half on its home field at South Jefferson High School.

With the victory, North Country earned a spot in the Region III semifinals where the Saints will meet top-seeded Herkimer College on the road Thursday at 6 p.m.

Herkimer, the second-ranked team in all of Division III, will bring a 16-0 overall record into the game while the Saints, the tournament’s No. 9 seed, are 9-9 overall.

Jefferson Community College, the No. 8 seed in the tournament, beat North Country 4-0 in the teams’ regular-season meeting in September.

In the women’s game Tuesday, North Country went into halftime with a 2-0 lead. Nidia DeArmaYero, the school’s all-time leading scorer, connected for both first half goals.

Tompkins Cortland scored both its goals within a seven-minute stretch of the second half. Elise Clavel was credited with both goals.

After a scoreless overtime period, the game went to a shootout, with Tompkins emerging as the winner.

North Country, which finished with a 12-4-2 overall record and was the No. 6 seed in the tournament, beat Tompkins 6-0 in a regular season meeting between the two teams in September.

Tompkins (6-7-2), the No. 11 seed, will face third-seeded SUNY Broome Community College in a semifinal round game.
