Chapot jumps into another winner’s circle

LAKE PLACID — As the United States celebrated its 243rd birthday, Laura Chapot celebrated yet another win at the 2019 Lake Placid Horse Shows, Sponsored by Bainbridge Farms, LLC and Presented by Sea Shore Stables, LLC. Chapot rode Calafornia to victory in Thursday’s featured event, the $5,000 Hollow Brook Wealth Management 1.40m Jumper Class.

Chapot rode Calafornia to one of only four clean rides over the 12-jump, one -round course designed by Bernardo Costa Cabral of Portugal. She blew away the competition, finishing in 59.390 seconds. Finishing second was Alberto Michan of Israel, the day’s first entry who set the mark to beat with a clean ride in 70.088 seconds.

The other two clean rides were turned in by Samantha Ramsay, who finished third with a time of 72.085 seconds on Nils On, and Brianne Goutal-Marteau, who came home fourth with a time of 72.357 seconds on Verdi III.

The Lake Placid Horse Shows, held at the North Elba Show Grounds, are celebrating 50 years of show jumping in Lake Placid. Each show is USEF Premier rated for hunters and 6* rated for jumpers.

Offering $560,000 prize money, the Lake Placid Horse Shows feature four show rings with more than 100 classes of competition each week. Horse show action continues throughout the weekend with competition beginning at 8 a.m. daily and running till approximately 5 p.m. Admission is $2 on weekdays and $5 on weekends. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free. Discounts are available for groups of 20 or more.
