HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Red Storm track down two wins
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys and girls track and field teams picked up rainy victories Monday in a dual meet against Northeastern Clinton.
The boys team won 103-28 and the girls secured a 93-33 victory.
“Conditions were less than perfect tonight for our meet with NCCS,” Saranac Lake girls coach Jason Wamsgamz wrote in an email. “Cold rain hampered the kids’ performances. We told the kids that we just needed to get through the meet without injury, and I am confident that both teams did so. We hope to have better conditions this Thursday in LP for our last regular season meet.”
Saranac Lake senior Grace Clark took first place in all four of the events she entered, while fellow senior teammate Edina Cucunjanin won two events.
Clark was the first to cross the finish line in the 100 hurdles with a time of 7.2 seconds and was part of the winning 400 relay team that finished in 56.9 seconds. She also won the triple jump with a 28-foot-10 distance and the long jump with a 13-8.
Cecunjanin won the 200 in 28.4 seconds and the 400 in 1:08.6
Saranac Lake junior Nick Kelting was a four-time winner in the boys meet. He won the 400 in 56.4 seconds and the 200 in 24.3. He was also part of the winning 400-meter relay team that finished in 49.3 seconds and the 1,600-meter relay team.
Saranac Lake travels to Lake Placid on Thursday.
