HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Lake Placid softball bounces back to beat AuSable Valley

LAKE PLACID — A day after suffering a sound defeat at the hands of rival Saranac Lake, the Lake Placid softball team came up on the winning end of the scoreboard Friday, edging AuSable Valley 10-9 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action.

Playing on their home diamond, the Blue Bombers turned in a much different performance against the Patriots than in their last time out. One of the highlights of the game was Emma Adragna earning her first win as a varsity pitcher. Danaya Patterson started in the circle for the Blue Bombers and Adragna came in with one out in the top of the second inning after AuSable Valley had already scored six runs.

Adragna went on to work five and a third innings and allowed four hits and just two runs. She walked four batters and struck out four. Sophia Johnson also chipped in with her first varsity hit in the win.

“We played great tonight,” Lake Placid coach Greg Hayes said. “Solid defense and aggressive base running.”

Natalie Tavares and Sophia Adragna each had two hits to lead the Blue Bombers offense.

The Blue Bombers improved to 4-9 with the win and wrap up the regular season at home Monday against Beekmantown starting at 4:30 p.m.
