HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Blue Bombers win second in a row

ELLENBURG — The Lake Placid baseball team claimed its second win in a row, topping Northern Adirondack 5-1 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action Tuesday on the Bobcats’ field.

The Blue Bombers scored twice in their first at-bat and never looked back. They tacked on another run in the fourth to take a 3-0 edge, and after NAC picked up its first and only run in the bottom of the sixth inning, Lake Placid added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh to secure the win.

Scott Sharlow had a solid outing on the mound to claim the victory. The senior scattered five singles, walked three and struck out three while pitching five innings. Jake Coursen came in to work the last two innings and held the Bobcats hitless while fanning four batters.

Lake Placid collected seven hits in the game, a triple and six singles, with Jesse Izzo leading the way, going 2-for-4 with one RBI. Noah Marshall belted Lake Placid’s triple and Duncan Segger, Matt Brandes, Sharlow and Jarrett Hathaway chipped in with a single each in the win.

Cody Peryea paced NAC with two singles, and Casper LaBarge, Brett Juntunen and Tyler Lavalley added one single apiece.

Peryea started on the mound for NAC and lasted six innings. He walked four batters and struck out seven.

Lake Placid evened its record at 2-2 with the win.

The Blue Bombers are next slated to play at Saranac Central on Thursday.

St. Lawrence 12, Tupper Lake 4

TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake baseball team got bit by the error bug Tuesday in a 12-4 loss to St. Lawrence.

The Lumberjacks had a good day offensively, outhitting the Larries 12-11, but eight errors proved to be Tupper Lake’s demise.

Dalton LaFountain went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, while Noah Varden and Skyler Pickering each had two hits to pace the Lumberjacks at the plate.

Tupper Lake scored single runs in the first and fourth innings and put two on the board in the bottom of the third. St. Lawrence led 4-3 through three innings then posted five runs in the fourth to take control of the contest.

SOFTBALL

Lake Placid 22, Moriah 16

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid softball team turned 11 hits into 22 runs Tuesday in a 22-16 victory over Moriah.

Shannon Bentley, Grace Crawford, Ireland Preston and Sophia Adragna scored three runs apiece to account for 12 of the Blue Bombers’ runs. Crawford, Danaya Patterson and Adragna each had two hits, while Natalie Tavares added a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Makeda Thompson chipped in an RBI two runs scored and walked three times.

Moriah pulled ahead early, scoring four in the first inning and seven in the second, but the Blue Bombers exploded for 13 in the third to take control of the game.

Lake Placid was able to draw a total of 11 bases on balls during the game.

The Blue Bombers were coming off a 15-0 loss to Beekmantown on Monday, a game in which they only were able to muster three hit. Tavares, Carsin Rissberger and Patterson accounted for the hits in that game.
