Chiefs down SL nine

SARANAC LAKE — Saranac Lake suffered a stinging setback Saturday, falling 17-4 to Saranac Central in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference baseball.

After the Red Storm jumped out to a 3-0 lead, the visiting Chiefs began to pour it on, starting with seven runs in the third inning. Saranac tacked on five more runs in the top of the fourth to go up 12-3, and outscored the Red Storm 5-1 the rest of the way to improve to 9-4 in the CVAC and 9-9 overall.

The Chiefs out hit the Red Storm 17-7. Robert Stephenson led Saranac Lake with a double. Zach Rainville, James Conway and Isaac Garman had the hot bats for the Chiefs, finishing with four hits each.

Stephenson started on the mound and went four innings while taking the loss. Ryan Meyer, Quin Peer and Dylan McCauley also pitched for the Red Storm.

Jacob Schiraldi was on the mound for the first three innings as the Chiefs’ starting pitcher and Rainville pitched the final four innings.
