HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Red Storm golf picks up a win

PORT HENRY — The Saranac Lake golf team claimed a 5-1 win on the road Monday at Moriah.

The Red Storm fell in the first match between each team’s top golfers but then won the next five contests on the 2,144-yard layout at the Moriah Golf and Country Club.

Playing in the second position, Will McClure shot the low round for Saranac Lake, topping Moriah’s Mason Ouellette 43-58.

The Vikings’ lone point was earned by Thomas Clark, who took medalist honors with a 38-44 victory over Red Storm junior Zach Churco.

Carson Ryan, Ryan Gallagher, Evan Hochwald and Noah Jewtraw all posted wins for Saranac Lake.

Lake Placid 5, Seton Catholic 0

Girls

Lake Placid 3, Seton Catholic 2

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid boys and girls tennis teams posted wins at home Monday against Seton Catholic.

The Blue Bombers boys blanked the Knights 5-0 while Lake Placid’s girls swept the three singles matches on the way to a 3-2 victory over Seton Catholic.

In the boys match, Sonja Toishi, Camden Reiley and Tucker Jakobe all earned convincing singles wins. Meanwhile, the two doubles matches both came down to tiebreakers with new players for the Blue Bombers coming through.

Toishi blanked Gary Li 6-0, 6-0 in the top singles match, Reiley claimed a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Thairat Panmethis in second singles, and Jakobe swept Tobiah George Yu 6-0, 6-0 in the third singles contest.

In the top doubles contest, Tristan Spotts and Levi Groves defeated Seton Catholic’s Tobiah Osborne and Noah Blood 6-4, 6-7 and 7-6 (7-4). Simon Thill and Reuben Bernstein triumphed in No. 2 doubles, topping Nicholas Palma and Nicholas Bula 6-4, 7-6 (14-12).

Barrett Smith, Jillian Robinson and Karis Hudson won their singles matches to lead Lake Placid to the girls victory.

Smith topped Ban Trakarnsrisakul 6-4, 7-5 in the top singles contest, Robinson blanked Brittany Bashaw 6-0, 6-0 in No. 2 singles, and Hudson defeated Jessic Fu 6-2, 6-1 in third singles.

Haley Murnane and Abby Boule of Seton Catholic won first doubles, defeating Lake Placid’s Regan Levitt and Sam Jubin 6-1, 6-1. In second doubles, Sophie Van Bargen and Avery Turner defeated Blue Bombers Haley Giroux and Arnita Cecunjanin 6-2, 6-4.

The win was the first of the season for Lake Placid’s girls.

BASEBALL

Parishville-Hopkinton 17, Tupper Lake 7

TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake baseball team came out on the losing end of an offensive showdown Monday night on its home field.

Parishville-Hopkinton scored seven runs in the third inning and piled out six more in the sixth to take down the Lumberjacks 17-7.

Tupper Lake junior Skyler Pickering drew three walks, scored a run and had a single. Teammate Jack Skiff went 1-for-2 with a single, a walk and two RBIs, while Brad McLear walked twice, scored three runs and hit a single.

The Lumberjacks recorded 12 overall bases on balls, but also surrendered the same amount to Parishville.

Owen Gonyea went 1-for-4 with a run scored and Brennan McComber collected an RBI and a single to contribute to the Tupper Lake cause.

Kade Hayes had a big game for the Panthers, collecting four RBI and four runs scored on three hits, one of which was a double.
