LAKE PLACID — Several local sports teams wrapped up their fall seasons in the last couple of weeks, but with snow building on the ground the winter sports season has officially begun with the first hockey game taking place in the 1932 Rink at the Olympic Center.

The combined Saranac Lake Placid girls hockey team hosted Canton in its season opener Tuesday, and although the opener ended with a 2-1 loss, SLP’s young team showed signs of promise.

The high school winter sports seasons kick into full gear next week with a full slate of boys and girls hockey and basketball games.
