Lake Placid serves up a sweep

SARANAC — The Lake Placid boys and girls tennis teams started their seasons off on the right foot Monday with victories over Saranac.

The Blue Bombers’ boys swept the singles matches as Sawyer Chase and Witter Swanson won in three sets and eighth-grader Tucker Jakobe downed his opponent 6-2, 6-3. Chase, playing at first singles, won 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, while Swanson dropped the first set 4-6 then rallied 6-2, 6-1 in the next two sets to earn the win.

Lake Placid’s boys took the team scoring by a 3-2 margin.

Saranac’s first doubles team of Jake Nolan and Logan Fournia edged Blake Roy and Kyle Kirkby 7-5, 7-6 (8-6), while Bryce Smith and Keegan Wood beat Camden Reiley and Levi Groves of Lake Placid 6-2, 6-3 at second doubles.

The Lake Placid girls won their match 4-1. Victoria O’Leary won a three-setter at first singles, beating Tori Bruno 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Blue Bombers seventh-grader Sonja Toishi won her second singles match 6-1, 6-2 and Laurel Miller won her match 6-3, 6-2 at third singles.

Both girls doubles matches went to three sets. Lake Placid’s Barrett Smith and Ashley Strack rebounded from a first set loss to capture a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory at first doubles. Aimee Hebert and Chelby Lawrence of Lake Placid dropped were on the losing end of a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 match at second doubles.
