Tupper runs to D title

NORWOOD – The Tupper Lake boys cross country team edged Norwood-Norfolk 27-28 to capture the Section X, Class D title Tuesday.

Tupper Lake junior Ben Casagrain took second place individually with a time of 19 minutes, 9 seconds. Norwood-Norfolk’s Kyle Fulk ran away with first place, crossing the line in 16:47.

Ryan Savage took third place in 20:15, Patrick Cote was sixth in 21:02, Alex Dukette was seventh in 21:30 and Matt Varden took 10th in 22:42 to round out the Lumberjacks lineup.

In the girls’ meet Tuesday, Tupper Lake didn’t have enough runners to compete in the team competition, but senior Tess Klossner took fifth overall with a time of 25:40. She finished behind four runners from Norwood-Norfolk, led by Sydney Levison who won the race in 20:03.

Tupper Lake’s Sandra Kwasniak was the ninth Class D runner to cross the line with her time of 26:53, while teammate Kasandra Sipler placed 11th in 29:27.

Franklin Academy won the Class B boys team title and Salmon River took top honors in the Class C race. On the girls’ side, Franklin Academy (Class B), HC Williams (Class C) and Norwood-Norfolk (Class D) earned team sectional championships.
