Red Storm, Lake Placid settle for volleyball losses

SARANAC LAKE – Playing at home on senior night, the Saranac Lake volleyball team was swept 3-0 by Northeastern Clinton.

Despite taking leads in all three games, the Red Storm were unable to hold off the Cougars in a battle between the two top Class C teams in Section VII. NCCS won by scores of 25-17, 25-15 and 25-23.

Nichole Khater led a strong defensive effort by the Cougars with 22 digs, and teammate Valarie Simmons added 20 digs in the win. Natalie Boulerice led the winners with 17 points and 16 assists.

Kaitlyn Smith, one of 14 seniors on the Red Storm, led her team with 15 points and 14 assists. Morgan Farmer and Olivia Atkinson paced Saranac Lake’s defense, each recording 17 digs. Aliva Sapone led the Red Storm at the net with six kills.

Saranac Lake wraps up the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference season Thursday on the road against Peru.

Peru 3, Lake Placid 0

LAKE PLACID – The underdog Lake Placid volleyball team put up a fight playing at home against Peru, but the Indians were still able to pull off a 3-0 sweep on Tuesday.

Peru, which is second in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference standings behind unbeaten Beekmantown, was victorious by 25-22, 25-9 and 25-23 scores.

Gracy Daby paced Lake Placid with 10 points, and Victoria O’Leary chipped in 10 kills for the Blue Bombers. Taylor Higgins turned in a dominant performance for Peru, finishing with 17 kills, 11 points, eight aces, five digs a block and an assist.
