LP boys capture CVAC title

TICONDEROGA – The Lake Placid boys won the overall team title and Saranac Lake’s Brittany Shumway won the individual girls race Saturday in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference Invitational.

The Blue Bombers placed five runners in the top 15 for a team score of 35. The Saranac Lake boys weren’t far behind with 57 points.

Caleb Moore of Seton Catholic won the boys race in 17 minutes, 1 second. Henry McGrew of Lake Placid was second in 17:47 and Anderson Gray of Saranac Lake was third in 17:54. Saranac Lake’s Lauchlan Cheney-Seymour took fifth in 17:58.

Lake Placid runners Scott Schulz and Trent White finished together in 18:13 for sixth and seventh place, while James Flanigan took eighth in 18:24 and Kai Frantz was 12th in 18:37.

Saranac Lake senior Adam Branch placed 13th overall with a time of 18:38.

Shumway won the girls race by a very narrow margin with a time of 20:20. Seton Catholic’s Lea DeJordy was second, while her sisters Sofia DeJordy (third in 20:29) and Savannah DeJordy (fourth in 20:30) weren’t far behind.

Led by Marli Damp, Gabby Armstrong and Sara Rose-McCandlish, the Lake Placid girls placed second in the girls team scoring with 74 points, trailing only Saranac which scored 42.

Damp took seventh place overall in 21:08, followed by Armstrong in eighth with a 21:19 and Rose-McCandlish in 12th with a 22:02.

The Saranac Lake girls placed fourth as a team with 87 points.

Saranac Lake and Lake Placid will now prepare for the Section VII state qualifier meet on Friday in Elizabethtown.
