Amy Farrell, of Tupper Lake, turned in another spectacular triathlon performance Saturday by winning the Ironman North Carolina women’s race in Wilmington, North Carolina.

Farrell completed the modified Ironman course in 6 hours, 53 minutes, 13 seconds. The bike portion of the race was shortened to 56 miles due to flood damage created by Hurricane Matthew.

Farrell completed the 2.4-mile point-to-point ocean swim from Wrightsville Beach in 53:50, then logged a 2:36:10 time over the 56-mile bike and finished with a 3:15:30 marathon. She was the fastest woman on both the bike and in the run and made her way through the first transition in 4:32 and took 3:11 in the bike-to-run transition.

Farrell placed 14th overall out of the 1,562 athletes in the race. She easily beat the second-best woman in the race, Sabina Piras, who finished in 7:09:58.

Saturday’s victory adds another impressive finish to Farrell’s triathlon resume. After winning the Tupper Lake Tinman 70.3 in June, she went to Gilford, New Hampshire and took first place in her age group with a 4:40 in the half-Ironman event.

Farrell, a coach and physical education teacher at Tupper Lake High School, also has an age group world championship under her belt as well as a victory in the Lake Placid Ironman. She won her age group in 2014 in Kona, Hawaii then came back to take Lake Placid’s women’s title in 2015.

James Duff, of North Carolina, won the men’s race in 6:08:58, followed by Cory Donohue (6:17:52) and Jamey Yon (6:22:07).

Saturday’s event included the longer Ironman distance as well as a 70.3 race, with both races on the course at the same time.
