Saranac Lake volleyball rebounds to take down AuSable Valley
CLINTONVILLE – The Saranac Lake volleyball team started slow Tuesday night but recovered to pick up a 3-1 victory over AuSable Valley.
The Red Storm dropped a close opening game 25-22, then rebounded with scores of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-20.
“The team played well, but was challenged the entire match,” Saranac Lake coach Mike Navarra said. “I’m proud they were able to settle down after dropping the first set and play as well as they did the rest of the match.”
Jada Meadows had a strong match for Saranac Lake with 22 service points, seven aces, 19 assists and four digs. Teammate Danielle Gonyea racked up 10 kills, while fellow hitters Andrea Boon and Alivia Sapone each put down seven. Kaitlyn Smith contributed 16 assists, five digs and 18 points.
Saranac Lake and AuSable Valley now each have 3-1 records.

Beekmantown 3, Lake Placid 0
LAKE PLACID – The Lake Placid volleyball team was dealt a 3-0 setback by the powerful Beekmantown Eagles Tuesday in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action.
Beekmantown swept the 25-10, 25-13 and 25-9 scores.
Allyssa Rock paced the Eagles with 25 assists, and teammate Abby Boone had a strong defensive performance with 14 digs.
Laurell Miller had five assists and four points for Lake Placid, and teammate Victoria O’Leary added five kills, four digs and an assist.

GIRLS SOCCER
AuSable Valley 6, Saranac Lake 0
SARANAC LAKE – The AuSable Valley girls soccer team scored twice in the first half and racked up four more in the second on the way to a 6-0 Northern Soccer League victory Tuesday.
Nia Blaise scored twice and Kourtney Keenan had a goal and an assist to pace the Patriots.
AuSable Valley outshot Saranac Lake 24-18. Madison Grimone was credited with 16 saves for the Red Storm, while Brinn Peck stopped 12.

CROSS COUNTRY
WESTPORT – The defending Class D boys state champion Lake Placid boys cross country team tacked on four more wins to their unbeaten record in a meet held Tuesday at Camp Dudley in Westport.
Trent White and Henry McGrew swept the top two spots to lead the way as the Blue Bombers notched victories over Plattsburgh, AuSable Valley, Ticonderoga and Schroon Lake. White topped the field with a finish time of 17 minutes, 1 second, and McGrew was just six seconds off his teammate’s pace.
Overall, the Blue Bombers landed five runners in the top 10, with James Flanigan placing fourth in 17:17, Scott Schulz finishing seventh in 17:31 and Jesse Izzo taking 10th in 18:05.
Marli Damp of Lake Placid won the girls race as her team also notched four wins. Damp dominated the field and finished in 22:05, which was 1:17 ahead of runner-up Lilly Potthast of AuSable Valley.
The Blue Bombers also grabbed the fifth and sixth positions with Sara Rose-McCandlish and Anya Morgan finishing in 24:17 and 24:46, respectively.
