Bombers rally for 2-2 draw

PORT HENRY – The Lake Placid girls soccer team got off to a slow start against Moriah on Wednesday, but had a strong second half to forge a 2-2 tie with the host Vikings.

Moriah netted the only two goals of the opening half, with McKenzie Sprague and Halee Calabrees scoring.

Lake Placid took over after intermission with Taylor Barney and Meghan Byrne each burying a shot. Grace McGrew picked up assists on both Blue Bombers goals.

Neither team could score during overtime.

Lake Placid held a 17-11 edge in shots. Shelby Jewtraw recorded five stops in net for the Blue Bombers and Samantha Hayes made 15 saves in goal for the Vikings.

Northeastern Clinton 9, Saranac Lake 0

CHAMPLAIN – Ouch.

On Wednesday, the Saranac Lake girls soccer team suffered a lopsided setback on the road, falling 9-0 to a high-powered Northeastern Clinton squad. The Cougars buried four goals in the opening half and tacked on five more after intermission while shutting out the Red Storm.

Sierra Gonyo scored two goals and added three assists to pace NCCS, which held a 25-8 advantage in shots. Makayla Schmidt made 12 saves in net for Saranac Lake, and Gabby Dumas stopped three shots in the Cougars goal to claim the shutout victory.
