Delaney wheels past Mini field

LAKE PLACID – The 18- to 29-year-old male age group was hotly contested Monday night as the High Peaks Cyclery Mini-Triathlon Series held its penultimate event of the season.

Colin Delaney, Marc Eves, Fabian Stocek and Karl Schulz each finished the 400-yard swim, 12-mile bike and 3-mile run in under an hour in the age group. Of the four, Eves was the first out of the water with a time of 7:01. Delaney finished the swim in 7:51 but quickly made up ground with a scorching 31:56 bike leg that was the fastest of the night.

Delaney locked up first place with an 18:26 run for a total time of 58:13. Eves followed in 59:21, Stocek was third in 59:34 and Schulz took fourth in 59:36. Sean Davis, the top swimmer of the night with a 6:38, placed fifth overall and in the age group in 1:00:19.

Elizabeth Izzo, a Kona Ironman qualifier, took first place in the women’s race Monday with a time of 7:52 in the swim, a 36:45 in the bike and 20:19 in the run for a total time of 1:04:56. Rosanne Van Dorn was second in 1:07:04 and Clare Carroll was third in 1:09:56.

The Mini-Triathlon series concludes next Monday. There will be a Kids Mini-Tri for younger racers at 3 p.m. at Mirror Lake. The adult mini-tri will start at 6:15 p.m., with registration opening at 5:30 next to the tennis courts on Mirror Lake.
