Trail run returns for 12th year

KEENE VALLEY – The Mountaineer gear store in Keene Valley will host the 12th annual Great Adirondack Trail Run on June 11 in Keene Valley. The run is a fundraiser for the Ausable and Boquet River Associations.

There are two events that day, an 11.5-mile strenuous run up Hopkins Mountain and a 3.5-mile fun run from Baxter Mountain Tavern to Keene Valley. Participants can register for the fun run any time, including on the day of the event. The strenuous run is already at capacity.

The cost of the fun run is $20 for adults and $5 for kids under 14. All participants will receive a T-shirt and sponsors will also donate prizes for the top runners.

The Mountaineer hosts numerous charity events each year, and are asking that each participant bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the Keene food pantry.

After the run, there will be a post-run celebration at the Keene Valley Country Club that is open to all runners and members of the community. There will be food and drinks, as well as live music from Dirt Road. The cost is $10.

The event is meant to provide an opportunity for adults and children to learn more about river ecosystems as well as to welcome spring before the black flies come out and the trails get busy.

For more information or to register for the run or the after-party, visit www.mountaineer.com, or call Vinny or Holly at 518-576-2281.
