Sam Haselton has what it takes
To the editor:
As the wife of the late Supervisor Randy Preston, I had a front-row seat to what the position of town supervisor truly demands. It’s not just about monthly board meetings; it’s about being there when the community needs you most, answering phone calls at all hours, tackling challenges that don’t have simple solutions and balancing what’s right for the people with what’s possible within the budget.
Randy was highly respected by his colleagues across the county and known for getting things done. I saw firsthand the dedication, integrity and resilience that leadership requires. That’s why I wholeheartedly support Sam Haselton for Wilmington town supervisor.
Sam is not only a lifelong resident, but he’s a taxpayer here in Wilmington. The decisions made regarding taxes and town spending affect him just as much as every other resident. That personal stake means he approaches every issue with accountability and common sense, not politics. He understands that the choices made in the boardroom have real effects on the families who live, work and retire here.
Through decades of successful business experience, Sam has built a reputation for reliability, fairness and problem-solving. Running a business that’s served this region for generations has given him the ability to listen, plan and follow through — qualities that will serve our town well. Just as importantly, Sam has already developed strong working relationships with county and state offices through his professional and community connections. Those relationships matter. They open doors, build cooperation and ensure that Wilmington’s voice is heard when funding, infrastructure and shared resources are on the line.
And as I’ve often said, behind every good man is a good woman. Sam has that in his wife, Pam. Pam has been quietly serving this community for years, volunteering at local events, serving on library committees and showing up whenever help was needed. She embodies the same grounded compassion and community spirit that make Sam the kind of leader we can trust.
This position can be demanding, challenging and incredibly rewarding. It requires someone with a backbone to make tough decisions, a heart to listen and the respect of the people around him. Sam Haselton has all of that–and more.
I believe Sam will bring the kind of steady, common-sense leadership that Wilmington deserves–leadership that listens, cares and gets things done. That’s why I will be writing in Sam Haselton for Wilmington town supervisor and I encourage all who love our town to do the same.
