To the editor:

I moved to Saranac Lake four years ago, not knowing anything about rugby. In 2023, out of curiosity, I braved the monsoon conditions and attended a couple of the Saranac Lake Mountaineers matches at the Can-Am Rugby Tournament. I was intrigued by the sport and the enthusiasm and sportsmanship of the teams. I learned the basic rules of the game, which increased my appreciation of the sport even more. This year, I attended seven of the Mountaineers men’s and women’s matches and only wish I could have made it to more.

Many thanks to the organizers and volunteers that put on this event. There are over 100 teams playing on several fields, in several men’s and women’s divisions, and it all goes off without a hitch. Great work! And thanks to the players that put on the show. The men and women Mountaineers played their hearts out and were rewarded with a successful tournament.

If you haven’t been to the Can-Am Rugby Tournament, give it a try next year. I don’t think you will be disappointed.
