After all these months, Forest Home Road (aka county Route 18) has finally reopened. Road crews were putting down the final paint strips on Aug. 8.

Project foreman Donny Drollette of Luck Brothers Contracting in Plattsburgh allowed Carrie and me to cut the ribbon to reopen the road. We were the first house after the closure, and therefore had the longest detour. I estimate that we drove at least 1,400 extra miles — 28 miles per round trip — over the last several months. It will be nice to have mail delivered again and UPS more often than once per week.
