The Big Beautiful Bill
To the editor:
The Big Beautiful Bill is one of the biggest transfers of wealth from those that have little to those that have much. Close to a trillion dollars in targeted Medicaid cuts to fund corporate and wealthy peoples tax cuts. Reductions in SNAP funding because, well who needs to eat. Ironically supporters of the bill say they are only targeting waste, fraud and abuse in these programs. Firstly if there is that much fraud, waste and abuse then they should all be fired since it happened while they were in charge. Secondly who among us decides gee I know how I’m going to get rich, I’m going to find myself a job, that pays so little that I hover around the poverty line or get myself disabled. That way I may qualify for health insurance and food stamps, yupper I’ll show them!
Then some of the other great things in the bill, a sales tax exemption for silencers, wait what? Billions of dollars to hunt down those criminal fruit pickers or cow milkers taking away all those jobs that we all must really want, right? A $5 trillion increase in the debt ceiling which if we are to believe the supporters of the bill shouldn’t be needed because the Big Beautiful Bill doesn’t add to the deficit, right Elise? An increase in subsidies to fossil fuel businesses because we know they all are hurting, right. A decrease in subsidies to clean energy businesses, bring back coal, I guess we all want to start shoveling again, that’ll make us great. Then there is the language about holding elections or not. Following court orders or not. Oh and by the way the touted no tax on tips or overtime sunset but the billionaire tax cuts are permanent, go figure?
So our own representative who proudly voted for this voluminous bill is exploring a run for governor. Let’s see, the resume includes leadership in the second least effective congress only behind the current congress. The likely shuttering of health facilities due to her support of the bill. People loosing access to food support. Her unwavering support of our current wannabe King.
The audacity is unmatched just in the naming of the bill! Thanks Elise for again shirking your duty to represent the best interests of your constituents and selling us down the proverbial River. Governor, hopefully not!
