Hanmer Thanks

To the editor:

Special Thanks to those who made the 2025 Willard Hanmer Guideboat and Canoe race, Guideboat Show and Art Show successful.

If you see any Red Shirt warriors, make sure you let them know what a special job they did this year. So many to name, but we all know these people who make Saranac Lake a special place to live.

Due to low river water, the last-minute need to move the race from the Saranac Lake Fish and Game Club to Riverfront Park created special problems, but with Saranac Lake’s cooperation, positive results were achieved.

A special mention is given to our mayor, Jimmy Williams, who cleaned the park by himself of all goose excrement starting at 6 a.m. on race day. This effort was after the Village crew had done that job just days before the fireworks display. The effort wasn’t to last, so the mayor himself made sure that spectators, racers and volunteers could enjoy a clean, safe area.

Another special thanks goes to the Village Police Department, who utilized two donated Sea-Doo’s during the race. They, along with the State Police, monitored boat traffic so that the racers, some as young as 3 and 6 years old, were able to be on Lake Flower safely.

On behalf of the racers, spectators and nearly 70 volunteers, we thank you so very much for your special efforts. You make Saranac Lake the King of the waterways.
