Enough is enough
To the editor:
We hear people expressing their concerns about a worsening climate crisis. It’s our high per capita consumption of natural resources, driven by materialism, it’s people consuming all the products that industries produce and sell that’s at the very root of the climate crisis and so many of the other environmental ills of the present day.
This has been building for centuries now, with generation after generation trying to out do the prior generation’s “standard of living.”
When will we ever love the earth enough to say “enough is enough”? When will we ask self-sacrifice of ourselves enough to seriously reduce our own excessive per capita consumption?
As more and more people fall under the seductive influence of an “American Dream,” as a “more-for-me” worldview goes global, the cumulative weight of our species’ environmental wreckage will become an ever-more oppressive burden to the earth.
Thanks for caring,
Dave Cree Hassig
