Polar opposites

To the editor:

For those of us who watched Tuesday night’s presidential debate, we saw polar opposites. Trump’s unhinged rants about crowd size, people eating pets, his not losing the last election, Victor Orban, abortion and how our country is going to hell. While Harris presented a vision for the future that even the most dour amongst us, you wouldn’t think, could find fault in.

A couple of takeaways that really struck me related to health care. Trump and our Trump sycophant Stefanik have been yelling about for almost a decade, their replacement plan of the affordable care act. It turns out that their plan is a big nothing burger. He stated they have concepts that will be better. Just think approximately 60 votes to repeal the act and replace with what, concepts. Rinse and repeat is on the label of a shampoo bottle and it appears that is the same approach they have towards this. He says for the untold number of times that he will release the plan within weeks. Donald and Elise, we’re still waiting, ha!

Then his confusing and truth bending position on abortion if it wasn’t so sad it might be laughable. There is no basis in fact that “everybody” wanted Roe overturned. All one has to do is review the ballot initiatives that have passed in support of a woman’s right to decide what she does with her own body, even in deep red states. Trump’s dance around his support or lack of support for a national abortion ban was cringe worthy. Another nothing burger to chew on.

So we have a choice either an elderly sometimes incoherent (he defends it as intentional labeling it “the weave”), angry, sad man or a woman that has the life experiences that most Americans can relate to. She presents a vision that brings both sides to the table to formulate a negotiated path forward. Let’s move forward and not back.
