Cardboard boat race was community effort

To the editor:

I want to extend my sincere gratitude to the following organizations for their generous support of the annual Corrugated Cardboard Boat Race that took place Aug. 25 in Saranac Lake: Adirondack ArtRise, Coakley’s Home Hardware, Elle Finocan and Liz Murray from the Women’s Civic Chamber, Cochran’s Containers, Northern Forest Canoe Trail and Erika Sipos.

I’d also like to thank the racers and members of the community who came on to cheer us on and made donations or bought 50/50 raffle tickets.

The race provided our community hours of fun and entertainment and raised valuable funds to benefit the Saranac Lake Youth Center. Tom Browne won the 50/50 and generously donated his portion back to the youth center.

The teams that participated showcased their creativity and teamwork as they raced their homemade cardboard boats across the Lake Flower. Coveted prizes were awarded to:

¯ First place team: Play ADK

¯ First place solo: Jamie McAloon

¯ Most duct tape: Lewis Hahn

¯ Spectacular sink: Henry Hahn

¯ Team spirit: SL Youth Center

¯ Honorable mention to Paul Smiths College for a valiant effort.

We also thank Franklin County’s Adirondack Frontier Grant for sponsoring this event. These funds are essential to our communities, as they support this and other community gatherings.

Thank you again to all involved. We look forward to seeing you next year.
