To the editor:

I am writing to urge readers to support Cheeseburger in Paradise by attending the public community vote on April 16 at 5:30 p.m. at the Elk’s Club. All who attend get a vote!

This theme was inspired by the classic Jimmy Buffett song, and offers a creative twist to our winter festivities, infusing a warm, tropical vibe into our chilly surroundings. The concept is to create a paradise in the midst of winter, where attendees can escape the cold and immerse themselves in a festive, island-inspired atmosphere. Imagine the transformation of Saranac Lake into a whimsical beach town, complete with sandcastles, palm trees and a sea of colorful decorations.

The “Cheeseburger in Paradise” theme would provide a broad range of activities and decorations that cater to all ages. From beach-themed winter games and crafts for the children to live music and tropical blender drinks for the adults, there will be something for everyone to enjoy.

This theme would be very timely as it would be the first theme eligible after the very sad passing of the iconic Jimmy Buffett on Sept. 1, 2023. The Chief Parrothead was always preaching to be kind to your neighbors, take things slow, and make time for a little wandering. As last year’s theme had already been chosen by the time of his passing, this year would be very apt for a theme that pays tribute to him. Businesses could choose from the hundreds of JB songs in his catalog to play, or focus on Tropical House, Yacht Rock, even ukulele or guitar performances!

Incorporating “Cheeseburger in Paradise” as our Carnival theme will not only provide a unique and memorable experience for our attendees but also serve as a beacon of warmth and joy during the coldest months of the year. “Cheeseburger in Paradise” is open enough of a theme that participants can feel empowered to make something about the beach, about sailors/nautical themes, Jimmy Buffett himself, whatever paradise would mean for you, or literal cheeseburgers!

And, the cherry on top, the trademark for the term has expired! (https://trademarks.justia.com/782/11/cheeseburger-in-78211449.html.)

Thank you for considering my proposal. I am excited about the potential of this theme, and urge all town members to vote for Cheeseburger in Paradise at the Elk’s Club on April 16!
