Fire department’s Thanksgiving Ball returns this Friday

To the editor:

On this Friday, Nov. 10, an time honored event is being revived. The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department will hold its Volunteer Fireman’s Thanksgiving Ball.

For nearly 100 years, the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Dept, held an annual Thanksgiving Eve Ball, at the Hotel Saranac. Somewhere along the way, the tradition was sidetracked. But this year, the tradition is back.

On Friday, Nov. 10, the tradition is being renewed at the Hotel Saranac, with the well known New York Players 10 piece band providing great music to dance to and to listen to. There will be free hors d’oeuvres and a desert table. The time is from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Hotel Saranac Ballroom.

The volunteers have a 125 year history of service to the community. As member since 1957, I have been privileged to see the continuing training, equipment upgrades and service provided to the community.

You are invited to join the volunteers as they revive the traditional Thanksgiving Ball. Tickets are available on line, or at the fire house — 100 Broadway — or call for tickets at 891-2333.

If you are not able to attend, please consider supporting the volunteers by sending them a thank you donation to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department, at P.O. Box 509, Saranac Lake.

Hope to see you for a fun evening.
