Hamner to feature week-long celebration

To the editor:

Hanmer race organizers have announced a special addition to the July 3 race revival. A three-day boat show in the Hotel Saranac ballroom from June 28-30 (noon to 9 p.m. daily) will showcase several vintage guideboats, a silent film showing Willard Hanmer building one of his boats, Gar Munn’s medley of films of past year races, a slideshow of historic images preserved by Historic Saranac Lake and the Adirondack Museum and a display of perpetual race trophies that will again be awarded on race day. The boat show is sponsored by the Hotel Saranac and coordinated by Historic Saranac Lake and local guideboat enthusiasts. This show will round out the Celebrate Paddling ADK month and welcome water events into the month of July.

The July 3 Hanmer will be followed by a kiddie parade (rain or shine) on the Fourth of July at 10 a.m. run by the Women’s Civic Chamber. The theme this year is Red, White and Blue. Parade line up starts at 9:45 a.m. behind St. Bernard’s School to follow a parade route down Church to Main streets to Riverside Park. Come at 9 a.m. for face painting and last minute bike, wagon and stroller decorations. Later that evening, a fireworks display will once again be held on Lake Flower.

The following Saturday, July 9, the 11th Annual Runabout Rendezvous will be held in Riverside park. This is an exhibition and display of wooden boats courtesy of Jay Annis of Spencer boat works and guideboats by Chris Woodward. Other vintage wood boats, for display or sale, are invited to participate in this impressive display of water warriors by contacting Jay Annis at Spencer Boat works, spencerboatworks.wordpress.com/runabout-rendez-vous.
