National Hospice Month

To the editor:

High Peaks Hospice is a valuable service and a resource to everyone. In November, we are reminded during National Hospice Month of our opportunity to refresh our knowledge. It helps to be informed as, at any time, we may find we need hospice services for ourselves or a loved one.

A member of my family needed hospice care a few years ago. We were referred to HPH and had visits from a hospice social worker and nurse. They helped us set up plans for the care that was needed. During the final weeks of our loved one’s life, we had direct help at home and support over the telephone. It was a confusing and painful time, and the hospice services were a steady guide and provided essential help. This allowed our loved one to remain at home for the duration of life. Afterward, hospice staff were there to help take care of paperwork and be with us us through the process. Looking back on the experience, I write to ask everyone reading this to make a note of hospice contact information, visit the website, and consider writing down your wishes regarding hospice services when they are needed.

The support, care and kindness of the HPH staff were a huge comfort and a very needed help to my family. I would wish the same for you when the time comes.

Sincerely,

Beatrice Beguin
