New Adirondack Pregnancy Center
To the editor:
I am writing in support of the Adirondack Pregnancy Center that is opening in Saranac Lake. I am a female businesswoman from a town in upstate New York who often vacations in the Adirondacks. I have seen firsthand what these centers provide for the community.
Several years ago, through business dealings, I became aware of a young woman who found herself in a crisis pregnancy. She was homeless and was trying to get back on her feet. My husband and I helped her get an apartment; she already had a job. I referred her to our town’s crisis pregnancy center. They also helped her with counseling and parenting classes, diapers and things she needed for the baby. In time she delivered a healthy baby. What a wonderful thing to have in your community when you have women in difficult situations.
After seeing how they helped this girl, I became a supporter of crisis pregnancy centers personally and through my business. We did a “baby shower” where customers donated diapers, wipes and all kinds of frequently used baby items. I had women from various political backgrounds who donated. It was a great way to help the community and rally around the people who find themselves in an unplanned pregnancy.
Sincerely,
